Understanding Anxiety

Anxiety – Understanding (Adults)

ADHD & Autism Editions (including PDA where relevant)

Anxiety doesn’t show up the same way for everyone.

For many neurodivergent adults, anxiety isn’t just worry or nerves — it’s a constant state of alertness shaped by how their nervous system experiences the world.

The Anxiety – Understanding kits exist to explain why anxiety is so common in ADHD and Autism, and why it often feels resistant to reassurance, logic, or traditional coping advice.

These resources are about recognition and relief, not fixing or managing anxiety.

🌱 What these kits are

These kits are:

  • nervous-system-led explanations of anxiety
  • written for neurodivergent adults
  • focused on understanding, not intervention
  • designed to reduce shame and self-blame

They are not:

  • strategy guides
  • calming exercises
  • CBT worksheets
  • exposure or mindset tools

Nothing in these kits asks you to change or do anything.
Understanding is the goal.

🧠 Choose the edition that fits you

Each edition is written separately to reflect different nervous system experiences.

ADHD – Anxiety (Understanding)
Explores anxiety rooted in:

  • anticipation and time pressure
  • emotional intensity and rejection sensitivity
  • inconsistent capacity and performance demands
  • past consequences of forgetting, falling behind, or “not coping”

Autism – Anxiety (Understanding) (including PDA)
Explores anxiety rooted in:

  • sensory overload and unpredictability
  • change, transitions, and uncertainty
  • masking and sustained adaptation
  • loss of control and demand-related threat responses

You do not need a diagnosis to use these resources.
If it resonates, it is allowed to be helpful.

🪹 How these kits fit with other NeuroNest resources

These kits focus on understanding anxiety, not reducing it.

For those who want gentle, nervous-system-safe support, separate resources are available:

  • Gentle Support for Anxiety – ADHD
  • Gentle Support for Anxiety – Autism (including PDA)
  • Supporter Guides for parents and carers (where relevant)

Nothing is required.
Nothing is time-sensitive.

🖤 Why these kits exist

Many neurodivergent adults are told their anxiety is irrational, excessive, or something to overcome.

These kits exist to say:
this anxiety makes sense.

Understanding doesn’t remove anxiety — but it often removes the most painful part: believing something is wrong with you.
