Shutdown doesn’t always look like distress.
Sometimes it looks like disappearance.
This kit is for moments when everything becomes too much — when your system goes quiet, heavy, blank, or unreachable, and you don’t know how to explain what’s happening to yourself or anyone else.
The Shutdown & Overwhelm – Understanding Kit exists to explain why this happens in neurodivergent nervous systems, and to remove the shame that so often follows it.
This resource is available in two separate editions — one for ADHD, and one for Autism (including PDA) — so the experience is described accurately and respectfully, not generalised.

This is:
You do not need to do anything with this kit.
Understanding is the purpose.
Each edition explores:
The Autism edition includes clear discussion of sensory overload, transitions, masking, and PDA-related demand responses.
The ADHD edition focuses on cognitive overload, emotional flooding, initiation collapse, and freeze.
You do not need a diagnosis to use this resource.
If it resonates, it is allowed to be helpful.
This kit focuses on understanding, not support strategies.
For those who want practical, low-demand support once understanding is in place, separate resources are available:
Nothing is required.
Nothing is expected.
Many neurodivergent adults are told they’re lazy, avoidant, dramatic, or disengaged when they shut down.
This kit exists to say:
there is a reason for this — and it makes sense.
Understanding doesn’t fix everything.
But it removes the most damaging part: believing something is wrong with you.
